How I Know Which Ones Work (Short Version: I Lost a Lot of Accounts Finding Out)

Eleven accounts across two years. The first seven because I was using a VPN, which doesn’t use a VPN for this. Please, I’m begging you, VPNs share exit nodes between hundreds of users and Instagram flags them constantly. The next four because a provider (not on this list, I removed them) gave me residential IPs that were already burned by other Instagram automation users before I even got them.

After number eleven I got methodical about it. Made a spreadsheet. Created fresh accounts through each provider. Same warmup routine. Tracked survival rates. Datacenter IPs lasted days. Residential lasted weeks. Mobile lasted the entire test period.

The Actual List

1. Floppydata

Here’s what I care about with an instagram proxy server for client work: are the IPs clean? Not “were they clean six months ago” but are they clean right now, today, when I assign one to a new Instagram account. Because if the IP was used by someone running a follow/unfollow bot last week and Instagram flagged it, my client’s brand new account inherits that reputation.

3. Bright Data

72 million residential IPs, targeting down to zip code, every proxy type you could want. I used it for three months for a client whose agency (200+ Facebook accounts, I couldn’t believe that number either but apparently that’s normal for large agencies) needed enterprise infrastructure. The IPs were excellent.

The dashboard was so dense with features that I needed an onboarding call, during which the rep was very patient with me even though I asked questions that were probably stupid. Around $8/GB. Best facebook proxies quality I’ve tested, tied with Floppydata, but the price and complexity make it agency-only in my opinion.

4. Oxylabs

Look, I tested Oxylabs and Bright Data side by side and I honestly cannot tell you which one is better. My spreadsheet says they performed identically. A friend who works in the proxy industry told me Oxylabs has slightly better documentation but I never read documentation for either of them so I’m taking her word for it. Same price range as Bright Data. If you’re choosing between these two you’re overthinking it, just pick one.

5. IPRoyal

The cheap social media proxies pick that doesn’t suck. Pay-as-you-go residential that doesn’t expire, around $7/GB. A woman I know, Sofia, runs a boutique agency in Lisbon, twelve Instagram accounts, uses IPRoyal exclusively. Been on it for ten months. No bans.

She told me over coffee in February that she’d considered switching to Floppydata but IPRoyal was working fine and she didn’t want to fix something that wasn’t broken, which is honestly the best endorsement a proxy provider can get.

6. Decodo

Formerly Smartproxy and honestly they should have kept the name because I keep forgetting “Decodo.” The setup is the easiest on this list by far. 7. SOAX

Carrier-level mobile targeting. You don’t just pick the UK, you pick Vodafone UK or EE or O2. Why does this matter? Because Instagram gives mobile carrier IPs more trust than anything else, that’s the network real Instagram users are on.

I tested Vodafone UK through SOAX for a beauty brand’s Instagram accounts for two months. Zero action blocks. $6/GB for mobile. If there’s one account you absolutely cannot lose, put it on a SOAX mobile IP.

8. Webshare

I’ll be blunt. Their datacenter proxies will get you banned on Instagram in about 48 hours, I tested this. Residential starts at $4.50/GB and is okay for Facebook scraping and Twitter monitoring. For Instagram account management, no. Start with Floppydata or IPRoyal. Come back to Webshare for tasks that don’t involve logging into accounts you care about.

The System (It’s Boring, It Works)

I had 24 accounts on Floppydata IPs through 1Browser profiles and forgot to set up one account, just one, in a 1Browser profile. Put it through regular Chrome instead. Everything else is identical. Same IP provider, same warmup, same posting schedule.

Within a week that one account got disabled. The other 24 were fine. When I tell you the fingerprint matters I’m not being theoretical about it. I watched it happen to my own accounts in real time with a sample size of one exception out of 25.
